Posted on Monday, August 3, 2015 3:28 PM

CMS has announced a six-month extension of the moratoria on new home health agencies (HHAs). The geographic areas covered by the moratoria include the Florida counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe; the Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will; the Michigan counties of Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne; and the Texas counties of Brazoria, Chambers, Collin, Fort Bend, Galveston, Dallas, Harris, Liberty, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Montgomery, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Waller. CMS can impose geographic specific, time-limited moratoria in any Medicare and/or Medicaid provider or supplier sector. The moratoria are limited to six months in duration, but CMS has the power to endlessly extend a moratorium in six month segments. The extension is effective July 29, 2015.
