New Study Confirms That Home Health Can Improve Fall Rates and Readmissions

A new study proves that home health has played an important role in decreasing the number of emergency room admissions among seniors after a fall. The report indicates that older adults who visit the hospital with head trauma will most likely return to the emergency department soon after.

The Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center began a new study that evaluated over 250 seniors who were patients in their trauma center. The results determined that almost one-third of these patients returned to the emergency room within 90 days.

Lauren Southerland, MD, an emergency physician with OSU states, “There are a lot of little things that a home health care aide can do that might prevent the next fall.” She further on explains that “Home health people know patients the best.”
