State Health Policy Center Expands Resources on State Strategies to Address Access to Palliative Care

Posted on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 6:38 PM

The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) has established a Resource Hub designed to assist states in advancing the development of palliative care.

NASHP has expanded the site to include two new resources for use:

Advancing Palliative Care for Adults with Serious Illness: A National Review of State Palliative Care Policies and Programs was released in December 2018 and contains a comprehensive review of how states are supporting the delivery of palliative care to adults. The report and accompanying charts highlight trends observed from all 50 states and Washington, DC, promising policy approaches, and key considerations for states to enhance palliative care access and quality across settings.  Following are links to the report and its appendices:

In January 2019, NASHP hosted a webinar providing guidance on the above-referenced report.  In addition to discussion of the trends, promising policy approaches, and key considerations identified in the report, the webinar features a presentation on how Texas is working to advance palliative care through stakeholder engagement and Medicaid quality improvement initiatives.
