Trend Alert: Cameras In Nursing Home Rooms
Posted on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 10:03 AMRecently, legislation allowing families to install cameras in nursing homes rooms was signed into law by the Governor of Illinois. The law, which will take effect in January, includes specifications for video, audio, and still cameras in nursing home rooms. The law requires facilities to obtain consent from roommates when one resident requests having a camera installed in their room. Additionally, nursing homes must post signs notifying residents and visitors that the room may be monitored. Illinois is the fifth state to pass legislation allowing cameras to be installed in nursing homes rooms. The state follows New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington - all of which have similar laws. Maryland also has guidelines for facilities that choose to allow residents to install cameras upon request. According to some reports, Missouri is considering similar legislation.
